Here is my short Online CV:
4th March 1963: I was born in Munich, Germany.
1974-1983: I attended high school (Maria-Theresia Gymnasium) with focus on sciences and mathematics.
1983-1984: I worked as a freelancer for different computer companies.
1984-1990: I studied Computer Science and Mathematics at Technische Universität München. In my spare time I founded a company which specialized in software development for SOHO customers. In addition, I started writing articles for various computer magazines. At university my main interests were Object-Oriented Programming, Compiler Construction, Computer Graphics, and Hardware Architectures. I got my university degree in 1990 "mit Auszeichnung" (summa cum laude).
1990-1991: I committed some projects for different companies to get practical experience.
1991-2006: I got employed by Siemens Corporate Technology. There I participated in C++ standardization and OMG standards. In addition, Frank Buschmann and I started working on patterns. We completed our first book in 1996. I helped Frances Paulisch to establish a German magazine on Object-Orientation called Objektspektrum. Later, I became editor-in-chief of Java Spektrum. People asked me to become president of the IJC (International Java Club). I founded the Distributed Object Computing Group at Siemens and then started co-authoring our second book on patterns. Recently, the book "Software Architektur Handbuch" was published where I wrote the chapter on patterns. In the meantime, I have written various articles for international magazines and have given many talks in many conferences world-wide. In the last years I focus on Java and Microsoft .NET. My special attention goes to Service-Oriented Architecture and Software Product Lines these days. I have always been involved in small, medium and large Siemens projects.
2004-2007: I worked in my Ph.D. thesis on understanding and analyzing software architecture using patterns. For that purpose I focused on middleware. Promotor: Jan Bosch. University of Groningen. Got my Ph.D. on 16th March 2007.
